Lt. Governor Brian Dubie has conceded to Democrat Peter Shumlin in the race for Vermont Governor. It was a very close race from the start. At the time of his concession speech, Dubie was trailing Democrat Peter Shumlin by about 3,000 votes. Shumlin was leading with 49 percent of them, Dubie had 48 percent. Dubie is encouraging his supporters to now support Shumlin with him.

Republican Phil Scott has been elected Vermont's next lieutenant governor. The state senator defeated Democratic state Rep. Steve Howard and Progressive Marjorie Power in the race to succeed Republican Brian Dubie, who was running for governor.

Soon after the polls officially closed last night, it didn't take long for news outlets to declare Democrat and incumbent Senator Patrick Leahy the winner once again. This is the 7th term for the seventy-year-old Leahy.

Democrat Peter Welch won his third term to the U.S. House of Representatives. He defeated Republican Paul Beaudry of Swanton. Welch will be in the minority party for the first time since taking office.

Democrat Jim Condos has been elected Vermont's next secretary of state, defeating Republican Jason Gibbs for the open office.

Vermont State Auditor Thomas Salmon has been re-elected to a third term. The Democrat-turned-Republican defeated Democrat Doug Hoffer.

Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell has been re-elected.

Jeb Spaulding is Vermont’s Treasurer.

Vermont voters say 17-year-olds should be able to vote in primary elections, as long as they're 18 by the time the general election rolls around. A proposed constitutional amendment making the change was approved Tuesday by voters.

Democrat Andrew Cuomo has coasted past tea party Republican Carl Paladino after a nasty race to win election as New York's governor. With nearly all the precincts reporting early this morning, Cuomo had 62% of the vote while Paladino had 34%. Third-party candidates split the balance.

Rutland voters said yesterday they like having a mayor. A ballot measure asking if they wanted to replace the elected mayor with a hired manager failed. Rutland also approved a $350,000 bond, covering the city’s share of a $3.5 million project on Routes 4 and 7.

The co-founder of Seventh Generation, the Vermont Company known for its marketing of environmentally friendly household products, has been removed from the board of directors and is no longer employed by the company. Officials say that during a September meeting the company's board voted to remove Jeffrey Hollender. A Company spokeswoman says Hollender's removal followed a "very difficult period" that also saw the resignation of the CEO.
