Vermont Yankee monitoring in question

Officials at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant failed for more than a year to conduct state mandated radiation monitoring. The monitoring of the plant's spent fuel storage was set to begin in early 2008 as part of Vermont Yankee's license to store spent fuel in steel and concrete containers. But officials recently found they never set the protocol for the monitoring. Vermont Yankee's Larry Smith says radiation measurements taken at the plant's boundary indicate compliance with safety standards, and that a new monitoring system is now in place.
